|
West Nile Virus Surveillance Season Begins.
NIAGARA REGION – May 7, 2012 – Starting today, residents can call the West Nile Virus (WNV) Info Line at 905-688-8248 ext. 7335 or 1-888-505-6074 to report dead crow and blue jay sightings as part of the WNV surveillance
program.
In order to decrease the risk to humans, reports of dead birds assist in the early detection of WNV activity so appropriate measures can be taken. While all sightings will be recorded and analyzed, a limited number of dead birds will be sent for testing. In addition, 21 mosquito traps will be placed throughout the region to capture mosquitoes that will be tested for the virus.
