Update # 20 - West Lincoln Response to COVID-19 – Township Modifying Summer Recreation Programming

West Lincoln, Ont. – June 12, 2020

The Township of West Lincoln is making important changes to its Summer Recreation Programming.   After careful consideration of the recently released guidelines from the Ontario Ministry of Health regarding summer camp operations during COVID, the Township has made the difficult decision not to offer the summer camp program.  The Township will closely monitor information and directives from provincial and local health authorities to inform any decisions about the viability and quality of alternative programs this summer.   As we await decisions around Niagara Region moving into Phase 2, planning is underway to look for opportunities around the safe operations of the splashpad, playgrounds, walking track etc.  Announcements will be made if it is determined that new summer programming will be offered.

We know this is disappointing news, however, the decision has been made now to give our families and staff as much notice as possible.  The Council and staff are looking forward to safely welcoming residents back to its programs and facilities and are working hard to develop solutions to ensure a safe environment for residents as re-opening continues.

In the meantime the Township has many wonderful parks and open spaces that we encourage our residents to use - https://www.westlincoln.ca/en/recreation-and-leisure/parks-and-trails.aspx.

The other good news is as of noon today, the Province of Ontario, has increased the limit on social gatherings from five to ten people across the province.

Mayor Bylsma stated,

“COVID- 19 has had a significant impact on how we offer recreation services in the Township.  We are regularly reviewing new provincial guidelines and will continue to explore flexible and adaptable solutions as part of a safe reopening plan for the Township of West Lincoln while ensuring our kids, seniors and most vulnerable are protected.”
