Update #2 - West Lincoln Response to COVID-19

For Immediate Release: March 16, 2020

On Friday, March 13, the Township partially activated its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) in response to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, moving forward on the best measures to protect the health of the public and staff.

As of March 14, 2020, and until April 5, 2020, the following facilities will be closed to the public:

  • West Lincoln Community Centre, Smithville Public Library, Caistorville Public Library, Caistor Community Centre (Abingdon Hall), Silverdale Hall, Wellandport Hall and Wellandport Public Library.

The Township office remains open and staff have been implementing enhanced cleaning & disinfecting practices. As a reminder to reduce the need to come into the building, there is a drop box outside the parking lot doors where payments can be dropped off and we request cheques rather than cash when possible. The Township is also able to process on-line and bank payments.

The Administration/Finance/Fire Committee meeting will proceed this evening, however, there are no delegations from the public being taken and there will be reduced seating should members of the public attend to address social distancing requirements.

During the closure, West Lincoln Public Library encourages library users to return materials via the drop boxes at each of our branches. Deadlines for returning materials will be extended until after the closure.

Library patrons are able to access our e-resources, including our digital library, via the library’s website www.westlincolnlibrary.ca. We will continue to monitor our email and social media for those who would like support with their electronic devices.

Mayor Dave Bylsma stated:

“Township staff continue to receive information and updates from reliable networks to make necessary changes to municipal services. CAO Hendry and senior staff have the full support of Council on this quickly changing situation. I commend them for their diligent desire to keep our community safe”.

The Township encourages residents to remain calm, seek information from credible sources such as Niagara Region Public Health, and take the necessary steps to stay healthy.
