Update # 27 - West Lincoln Response to COVID-19 – Niagara Moves into Yellow (Protect) Level in the Province’s new COVID-19 Response Framework and First Active Case of COVID-19 at the Township

West Lincoln, Ont. – November 6, 2020

The Township of West Lincoln has learned of its first active case of COVID-19 at the Township office and is reminding members of the public that the Township office is only open by appointment.

An administrative employee in the Township’s office tested positive for the virus this week and is undergoing mandatory self-isolation measures.  It has been confirmed that the case was not transmitted within the workplace.  Public Health have been advised of the situation and through contact tracing anyone at risk will or has already been contacted.

This incident has reminded all of us of the importance of the cleaning protocols, screening protocols, mask use, hand hygiene and social distancing.  These measures are working and continue to be our best line of defense to manage the risks associated with working during this pandemic.

We remind the public that the Township office is opened for appointment only and if you do show up without an appointment staff will work hard to find a way to serve you remotely or set you up with an appointment.  Ideally, it is best to call ahead, email or use other electronic means of communication wherever possible.

In addition, the Province of Ontario made an announcement this afternoon (November 6, 2020), that the Niagara Region will be moved to the Yellow – Protect Level of the new COVID-19 Response Framework. This level may affect the operations of the West Lincoln Community Centre related to facility usage and programs.  Staff are working diligently to review the new requirements to implement a seamless transition for our community and facilities users.  Further details will be provided in the near future.

Mayor Bylsma stated,

“The Township has been actively responding to the defined COVID-19 protocols and procedures to protect the public, staff and Council and at the same time ensure that business of the Township carries on.  We have been paying attention to the risks of a second wave scenario and even with that planning it has happened to one of our staff.  The good news is that our systems are working and we thank the community for their support and understanding as the delivery of services evolve”.
