West Lincoln Prepares to Ring in the Holiday Season

For Immediate Release: November 30, 2021

The Township of West Lincoln’s Christmas Parade Committee, a small but mighty squad of 8 passionate volunteers, is hard at work preparing a scintillating selection of seasonal celebrations sure to satiate the senses.

West Lincoln Santa Claus Parade

After having to cancel the traditional parade in 2020, due to Provincially mandated lockdowns, the West Lincoln Christmas Parade Committee is proud to present a new, drive-thru parade format: A Country Christmas Celebration.

The drive-thru parade will feature beautiful lighted displays and floats, festive holiday music provided by KX94.7 and local choirs, and the man in red, himself, Santa Claus! Children will receive a goodie bag from the West Lincoln Fire Department and other local businesses.

When: Saturday, December 11, 2021, from 5-8:30 p.m.

Where: West Niagara Agricultural Society Centre & Fairgrounds, 7402 Mud St. W. Grassie – Vehicles to enter at Mountain Rd.

One ticket is required per vehicle. Please obtain your free ticket and select your time slot in advance through the West Lincoln Santa Claus Parade website. Attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation for West Lincoln Community Care.

West Lincoln Sparkles

This Township-wide holiday lighting and décor contest was so successful at bringing West Lincoln residents together in spirit in 2020 that the Committee is bringing it back again! Join in the fun and help make our community sparkle by decking out your home for the holidays.

First, second and third place prizes will be awarded for home submissions in Urban Smithville and in Rural West Lincoln. Bragging rights will be granted for the best lighted display at any competing not-for-profit. Prizes to be announced. See full contest rules and complete your contest registration form at the West Lincoln Sparkles 2021 webpage.

Colouring Contest

West Lincoln children are invited to show off their creativity for the Country Christmas Celebration’s Colouring Contest. Judging of submissions will be divided into two age groups: 0-7 and 8+. Three winners will be chosen in each category.

See full contest details, including a list of locations where you can pick up and drop off colouring sheets, or download and print your colouring sheet at home on the 2021 Colouring Contest webpage. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, December 14, 2021.

Free Public Skate

West Lincoln’s Christmas Parade Committee is teaming up with V & R Recycling & Hose Hydraulics to provide a free public skate at the Community Centre. The Committee hopes to have some other fun activities in store, as well! The official date and final details of the public skate will be forthcoming. Stay tuned!

The Township would like to also recognize the great success of West Lincoln Shines, the annual community tree lighting, and the first West Lincoln Winter Market. Special thanks go out to Kiwanis of West Lincoln, Smithville Christian High School, and all of the staff and volunteers who made these events possible.

Remember to support the West Lincoln Chamber of Commerce’s Toonie Toy Drive this holiday season. Donations are being collected at the Township Administration Building and select merchants until December 10, 2021.

Quotes:

“It is such a joy to have a parade return to West Lincoln in any form this Christmas, let alone have one that will light up the night sky. On behalf of Township Council, I would like to thank our Parade Committee for their incredible efforts to bring the Christmas spirit to West Lincoln. I look forward to bringing my family through this year’s drive-thru Country Christmas Celebration.”

Dave Bylsma

Mayor

“Our Christmas Parade Committee is doing a great job putting together creative events and initiatives to spread joy throughout our community. It can take upwards of four months to organize the traditional West Lincoln Santa Claus Parade. Considering the ever-evolving changes to regulations due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it made sense to offer alternative options to celebrate the holidays. We can’t wait to ring in the season with all of you.”

Wendy Beaty

Coordinator of Recreation Services

Parade Committee Staff Liaison

“The West Lincoln Christmas Parade Committee is very excited to provide a variety of ways for our community to come together and celebrate this holiday season. We have so many decorations and wonderful local businesses joining us for our drive-thru parade. We can’t wait for you to see the West Niagara Agricultural Centre shine brightly on December 11. We are also thrilled that so many have signed up for the 2nd Annual West Lincoln Sparkles Holiday Home Decorating Contest. We anticipate some very delightful displays!”

Nicole Scime

Christmas Parade Committee Chair

“Thanks to the dedication of our Christmas Parade Committee, this holiday season is going to be filled with fun celebrations. Each of these volunteers deserves our deepest gratitude for their commitment to our community. Ours is truly a small Township with a very big heart.”
