West Lincoln Revives Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee

For Immediate Release: November 24, 2022

The Township of West Lincoln is reinstating its Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC) for the 2022-2026 term. This welcome revival will mark the first time West Lincoln has had a MYAC since 2018.

The MYAC’s mandate is to ensure that youth are involved in the decisions made within the Township of West Lincoln that affect them, their families and friends. The committee will inform and involve other youth in the community, provide an authentic voice for youth in the community, and seek to provide quality programs created by youth for youth. The MYAC intends to achieve this by solidifying relationships between youth and the community at large and by initiating and supporting youth-oriented events and programs.

The MYAC will consist of the Mayor and a minimum of twelve (12) and maximum of eighteen (18) youth (age 12-18) of West Lincoln.

Prospective members are asked to fill out an application, found on the Township’s Job Opportunity Page, and submit it by email to Joanne Scime, Director of Legislative Services/Clerk, at jscime@westlincoln.ca or by mail to 318 Canborough Street, Box 400, Smithville, ON, L0R 2A0. Applications are being accepted until December 16, at 4:30 p.m.

Quotes:

“Engaging the young people of West Lincoln in important decision making and problem solving conversations is a high priority for me – they are quite literally the future of our Township. I am thrilled to invite our youth to step into leadership roles and to learn how they can impact positive change for their peers and for their community. I look forward to learning from them as well.”

Cheryl Ganann

Mayor

“There is perhaps no greater way to invest in our future than to invest in our younger citizens. They will be the ones who will sit in the shade of whatever figurative (and literal) trees we plant today. We are thrilled to be welcoming West Lincoln’s youth back to the table.”
