Applications open for Municipal Fee Grant to support affordable housing in West Lincoln
The Township of West Lincoln is now accepting applications to its Municipal Fee Grant program for new affordable housing projects.
As outlined in the Township’s Affordable Housing Community Improvement Plan, the Municipal Fee Grant program reduces the costs of creating affordable housing by providing a rebate to cover municipal planning and building fees for eligible projects.
The program encourages homeowners, landlords, non-profits and developers to bring forward applications that add to the local housing supply.
“Affordable housing is essential to building a strong, inclusive and sustainable community,” says Mayor Cheryl Ganann. “By reducing municipal fees for eligible projects, we are helping to remove barriers and encourage investment in housing options that meet the needs of West Lincoln residents today and in the future.”
Eligible projects include affordable housing projects approved for financial assistance under either a Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), Federal, Provincial or Regional housing development program for the purposes of incorporating new affordable rental housing. Providing a grant to cover the costs of municipal fees does not ensure the project will be approved by the Township.
“The Municipal Fee Grant program is one of the tools available through our Affordable Housing CIP to support the creation of new affordable housing opportunities,” says Gerrit Boerema, Director, Growth and Sustainability. “We encourage eligible applicants to explore the program and work with staff to bring forward projects that contribute to a more diverse and attainable housing supply in West Lincoln.”
Up to 100 per cent of the costs incurred to seek approvals for affordable housing providers and non-profits to develop new affordable housing units (specifically Township Planning Application Fees and Building Permit Fees) are eligible.
