West Lincoln enhancing waste collection, waiving tipping fees for flood-affected residents
West Lincoln residents who experienced flooding following a period of heavy rainfall will receive additional support with flood-related cleanup through enhanced waste collection services and waived tipping fees.
At its August 10 meeting, Council approved a one-time increase in waste collection limits for flood-related damages. For the week of August 17, affected residents will be permitted to place up to five bags of flood-related waste for collection, an increase from the regular limit of two bags.
Council also directed Administration to work with the Region to temporarily waive tipping fees at local landfill sites for West Lincoln residents affected by flooding, helping to reduce the costs associated with cleanup and recovery. Flood affected residents attending landfills should be prepared to provide identification showing their West Lincoln address.
“Some residents are now facing the difficult task of cleaning up after flooding caused by the heavy rainfall, and we want them to know that the Township is here to support them,” says Mayor Cheryl Ganann. “Waiving tipping fees and increasing waste collection limits are practical steps we can take to help ease the burden on affected households as they begin the process of putting their homes back together.”
The Township recognizes the challenges faced by residents impacted by the flooding and remains committed to supporting the community. Affected residents are encouraged to contact staff via email at stormevent@westlincoln.ca to help the Township track impacts, monitor changes and work with partner agencies to set up additional support when needed.
