West Lincoln monitoring impacts of heavy rainfall

Over the past week, Niagara has experienced heavy rainfall resulting in significant flooding in some municipalities.

In West Lincoln, the Township has been actively monitoring conditions and preparing to deploy crews to mitigate any flooding. Thankfully, local impacts have been fairly minimal with some rural roads experiencing minor flooding that was not substantial enough to warrant closure.

So far, it has not been deemed necessary to activate additional resources or emergency response. The Township continues to track and monitor the situation to ensure appropriate response and support.

"While we were fortunate to avoid the widespread impacts experienced by some neighbouring communities, we recognize that even localized flooding can have a profound effect on those impacted. Our homes are where we build our lives and preserve our memories, and it is heartbreaking to know that some residents may have experienced damage to their properties or belongings,” says Mayor Cheryl Ganann. “We remain committed to supporting our residents, responding appropriately and continuing to invest in resilient infrastructure that helps protect our community in the face of weather events."

The Township is asking residents who may have experienced flooding on their private properties or in their basements to please contact staff via email at stormevent@westlincoln.ca. This information will allow Administration to track impacts, monitor changes and work with the Region and partner agencies to set up additional support when needed.
