West Lincoln mourns the passing of Councillor Rehner
The Township of West Lincoln is saddened to share the news of the death of Councillor Mike Rehner, who passed away in the early morning of Thursday, August 20, at the age of 73.
Councillor Rehner served the Township as a Ward 1 Councillor for five terms, from 2003-2010 and from 2014-2026. He was a passionate advocate for fiscal responsibility, protecting agricultural lands, and strategic investments in rural infrastructure.
“It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of our colleague and friend, Councillor Rehner. Mike brought his experience and character to every meeting and project he was involved with. He served his community with dedication, and his contributions will be remembered with gratitude,” says Mayor Cheryl Ganann. “On behalf of Council and Administration, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Councillor Rehner’s family and friends, particularly his wife Anne and his children. We share in your grief.”
Councillor Rehner served on many committees and boards during his tenure, including the Smithville Community Improvement Plan Committee, the Steering Committee for the Brownfield Community Improvement Plan, the Transportation Advisory Committee, the Niagara 12 Landfill Site Citizens Liaison Committee and, most recently, served as West Lincoln’s representative on the Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. Board of Directors.
Flags are being lowered at all Township facilities in memory of Councillor Rehner and will remain at half-mast until after the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that members of the public consider donating to the Niagara 4-H Association in memory of Councillor Rehner.
