50+ storefronts, 6 sessions to be featured at West Lincoln seniors’ fair

More than 50 organizations are set to participate in West Lincoln’s upcoming Seniors’ Active Living and Information Fair with pop-up storefronts to connect older adults and caregivers to relevant resources and supportive services. Among the storefronts, attendees will be able to have their blood pressure checked with Smithville Pharmacy and Smithville Pharmasave.

The free event will feature the following six sessions/workshops where attendees will gain healthy living tools through live demonstrations, movement and active engagement.

Tai Chi Demo: Watch a demonstration of a lifelong activity that develops balance, builds strength and supports coordination and cognitive improvement.

Performance Mobility: A short presentation on stairlifts focusing on 'Stay in the Home You Love' highlighting their affordability and safety.

Core and Strengthen Active Demo: A supportive session that enhances your balance, strengthens your core and promotes better mobility for everyday life.

Motion and Memories (Sit & Cycle Demo): Move your legs using an elliptical-style machine while sitting. This low-impact pedaling engages the legs and ankles with minimal strain on the knees and hips.

Brain Health Workshop: Join a fun and informative Brain Health Workshop from Baycrest Academy for Research and Education to learn about brain health and aging. Participants can also take a free Brain Health Assessment, ask questions about their results, and receive personalized tips. To take the assessment, participants should have basic computer skills, be 50 to 85 years-old and be able to read and understand English. Please bring your glasses if needed and arrive five minutes early to set up on the provided laptops.

Mah Jongg Learning & Demo: Watch a demonstration and learn to play this traditional four-player game of skill, strategy and chance.

The Seniors’ Active Living and Information Fair will take over the West Lincoln Community Centre on Wednesday, September 16, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Find the full list of participating organizations on the Age Friendly webpage.

The Township of West Lincoln and its Age Friendly Advisory Committee acknowledge and thank the Government of Ontario for the funding provided to the Older Adult Centres’ Association of Ontario for the implementation of the Seniors Active Living Fair project.
