West Lincoln’s Age Friendly Advisory Committee (WLAFAC) is focused on making our Township an age-friendly community.

We provide input and suggestions to Township Council and staff on related initiatives and organize events and workshops to connect and support older adults and caregivers in our community. The Committee will be facilitating three public events in 2025. See below for details.

Free Seniors' Seminar

Thank you to everyone who participated in our free Seniors' Seminar on June 6, 2025, at the West Lincoln Community Centre. Special thanks to our guest speakers from the McMaster Research team and Happy in my Home (Community Support Services of Niagara) for sharing their time and wisdom with us.

Seniors' Active Living and Information Fair

When: Friday, September 26, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Schedule

9:30 a.m.: Hon. Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors & Accessibility, and Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff will bring greetings from the Province of Ontario
9:30: a.m. - 2:30 p.m.: 50 storefronts
10 a.m.: Guest speaker 1
11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.: A light healthy lunch will be provided
1 p.m.: Panel of guest speakers

Guest speakers

10 to 11:30 a.m.: Dr. Anthony Levinson - Dementia and Dementia Risk Reduction

Dr. Anthony Levinson, Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, holds the John R Evans Chair in Health Sciences Education Research and Instructional Development and is an expert in the design, implementation and evaluation of technology-enhanced learning and performance. His work impacts the spectrum of medical education, including health information and apps to improve patient education.


1 to 2:30 p.m.: Panel Discussion - Legacy and Estate Planning | Future Care and Arrangements | Avoiding Probate

Drew Gauthier is a Class One Licensed Funeral Director and Ontario Funeral Services Association Board Member. He owns Merritt Funeral Home and has worked in the funeral industry since 2013.

Christina Cottone is a licensed lawyer with a strong foundation in Canadian and US legal systems. With a cross-border legal background and a passion for clear, accessible legal communication, Christina focuses on helping individuals and families navigate the complexities of wills, estate planning and incapacity preparation with confidence and peace of mind. She holds an Honours Bachelor's Degree from Western University, where she majored in English Literature and Crimonology and earned her Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Buffalo School of Law. 

Noah Pontello, CPA, MAcc, will speak about the tax implications on death, returns that need to be filed, information that need to be readily available for executors and ways to prepare for death from a tax perspective.

Meetings are held the first Friday of every month, at 9 a.m., in the Council Chambers located at the Township Administration Building at 318 Canborough St.

Note: An additional Committee meeting is being held on August 22, 2025.

The Committee may have a maximum of 12 voting members. Meetings are open to the public and guests are encouraged to attend.
