West Lincoln’s Age Friendly Advisory Committee (WLAFAC) is focused on making our Township an age-friendly community.

We provide input and suggestions to Township Council and staff on related initiatives and organize events and workshops to connect and support older adults and caregivers in our community.

West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Presentation | March 6

The following special guests presented at the Age Friendly Advisory Committee meeting on March 6.

The team presented an overview of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, including a virtual tour.

The Benefits of Journaling | May 1

Bill Young, a Volunteer Research Team Lead and Volunteer Cemetery Lead for the Niagara Peninsula Branch, Ontario Ancestors, presented at the Age Friendly Advisory Committee meeting on May 1.

Bill's presentation covered the benefits of journaling, noting the many ways it can be helpful to write about one's life and family history memories.

2026 Events

Seniors' Health Seminar | June 12

When: Friday, June 12, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Where: West Lincoln Community Centre, 177 West Street, Smithville

Two special guest speakers will lend their expertise on topics that support healthy living for older adults. Time will be allotted after each presentation for questions from the audience. Free refreshments will also be provided.

Speaker 1: Dr. George Ioannidis, Deputy Director at Geras Centre for Aging Research, will present about gait speed as the new “sixth sense” and a power indicator of health. Learn about a new rapid and reliable tool designed by Geras to measure gait speed.

Speaker 2: Lorraine Hulley, Executive Director at Rose Cottage Community Hospice, will present strategies for talking with your doctor and advance care planning.

Meetings are held the first Friday of every month, at 9 a.m., in the Council Chambers located at the Township Administration Building at 318 Canborough St.

The Committee may have a maximum of 12 voting members. Meetings are open to the public and guests are encouraged to attend.
