New West Lincoln Fire Station #2 Moves to Construction Phase

For Immediate Release: June 24, 2022

Shovels went into the ground at the 8635 Silver Street site this afternoon, to officially mark the start of construction of the new Fire Station #2 in the Township of West Lincoln.

This project is being completed by Niacon Construction. The new Fire Station #2 is expected to be finished and operational by June of 2023.

Building a new Fire Station #2 was included as a short-term initiative under Theme 5 in the Corporate Strategic Plan 2019-2029. As part of the 2020 budget approval, $1.9 million was allocated towards this project.

The COVID-19 Pandemic created a number of challenges in the construction industry, which resulted in construction estimates that far exceeded what the Township allotted for this project. The proposed budget for this project was later amended to accommodate increased costs.

In a unanimous vote at its regular meeting on May 24, 2022, Council supported the recommendation to move forward with construction and allot $3,456,590 (excluding HST) towards the new Station #2.

“I am so proud of Staff for all the hard work they have put into getting this project off the ground well within our original timeline, even with the added challenges brought on by a global pandemic. This is a monumental step towards accomplishing the goal of Corporate Strategic Plan Theme Number 5: that West Lincoln continues to be a safe community where all residents are supported to thrive throughout their lives. Well done, everyone involved.”
