Update # 42- West Lincoln Response to COVID-19 –  Implementing the New Roadmap to Reopen

West Lincoln, Ont. – May 21, 2021

West Lincoln has received the details of the Provinces’ new three step Opening Plan and agrees with the sector based roll-out which is dependent on vaccination thresholds.

On May 20th, the Province announced the opening of certain outdoor amenities such as golf courses and marinas, which may open on Saturday, May 22, pending users abide by strict social distancing rules imposed by the Province.

In addition to easing certain restrictions, some previously closed amenities are opening for use as of Saturday, May 22nd. For West Lincoln these amenities include:

  • Tennis Court
  • Skate Park

Specifically, residents will be able to use parks and outdoor recreation facilities for passive activities, however, they must continue to abide by restrictions limiting groups to no more than five people and maintaining a two-metre physical distance. Organized sports are still restricted on municipal fields, given their necessity for gathering of groups. At this time park and outdoor amenities such as playground equipment are open, however, the Splash Pad will remain closed until Step One of the Provincial Reopening Plan.

Anyone taking advantage of these spaces should be sure to follow the best practices to limit the spread of COVID-19 as outlined by Niagara Region Public Health. These include frequent washing / sanitization of hands, physical distancing, avoiding touching of shared surfaces, and staying home if displaying symptoms or having been in contact with cases of the virus.

Bylaw enforcement will continue to enforce the restrictions for gatherings larger than five people.

The West Lincoln Community Centre is hosting a Niagara Region Public Health Vaccination Clinic June 6, 7 and 8 and eligible residents can book COVID vaccine appointments online through the Provincial Booking System or by calling 1-833-943-3900.

Councillor Cheryl Ganann stated,

“I encourage all West Lincoln residents to continue to follow current Provincial and Public Health guidelines as they enjoy this first long weekend of summer. To those who have not yet received your first shot, please make your appointment as soon as possible. The more of us who become vaccinated - the sooner we can all get back to enjoying summer weekend time with our families and friends.”
