MEDIA RELEASE
Update #53 West Lincoln Response to COVID-19

For Immediate Release:
March 14, 2022

In conjunction with the Region of Niagara, Local Area Municipalities and the Township’s Emergency Operations Centre effective Tuesday, March 15 at 12:01 a.m., West Lincoln will officially be ending the Township’s Declaration of Emergency relating to the COVID-19 Pandemic that has been in place since April 3, 2020.

The Declaration of Emergency by the Township was declared in an effort to help save lives, protect our hospital system and to underscore the critical nature of the situation. After two years, we are in a significantly different position and it appears that now is the appropriate time to move forward as a community and we need to learn how to transition to living with and managing COVID-19.

A sincere thank you to all West Lincoln residents who did their part over the last two years to wear masks, follow directions to stay home, limit personal contact and get vaccinated.

We also thank all of our front line health care workers who selflessly made the commitment to serve our community and getting us through exceptionally difficult times. We also are grateful to our essential workers who continued to report to work throughout the pandemic, risking their health to ensure our economy could continue to operate.

The last two years have been exceptionally challenging for everyone, but the residents of West Lincoln proved that they are willing to do what was necessary to take care of each other and keep one another safe.

Despite this significant progress, it is important to remember that the pandemic is not completely over. Residents are encouraged to consider taking steps to protect themselves and reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Some of these steps include getting a third vaccine dose, practicing physical distancing when possible, and participating in outdoor activities, as opposed to indoor, when that is an option.

Quotes:

“I am very pleased that the end of restrictions is in sight and thank our residents for doing their best to keep their neighbours and family members safe and healthy, throughout this past trying time. Be cautious however, as you move out in the "world" and continue to appropriately judge your personal risk level regarding continued mask-wearing, as suggested by Dr. Kieran Moore, Provincial Chief Medical Officer of Health.”

Cheryl Ganann
Councillor

“West Lincoln Council has made the decision to end the emergency order in keeping with the advice of Niagara Region, our local area municipal neighbours and our Emergency Operations Centre (EOC.). We thank the EOC and Recovery staff teams for their advice, guidance and flexibility navigating the stages of the COVID pandemic thus far. These teams will continue to meet to prepare for when the pandemic moves into an endemic stage.”
