West Lincoln Issues Challenge to Gardeners of All Aptitudes

For Immediate Release: June 16, 2023

The Township is challenging West Lincoln gardeners of all ages and aptitudes to boast their botanical brilliance through its new Great Garden Challenge, presented in partnership with Communities in Bloom and Scotts Canada.

Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organization that strives to foster civic pride and inspire communities to enhance the quality of life and environment through people and plants. The Township’s application to participate in the Communities in Bloom 2023 Miracle-Gro Best Garden Selection Program was approved in March.

Submissions are now being accepted in six categories: Best Vegetable Garden, Best Hanging Basket/Container Garden, Best Pollinator Garden, Best Sunflower, Best Overall Garden, Best Use of the Colour of the Year (purple), and Best Overall Garden.

How to Participate

Submit your gardens and plants for consideration online or in person by completing a paper form and dropping it off at Township Administration along with corresponding photos. Paper forms are available at Township Administration, the West Lincoln Community Centre, and all West Lincoln Public Library Branches. There is no limit to how many entries you may submit. Please submit one form per entry.

Participants and their subject gardens and plants must reside in the Township of West Lincoln. Submissions will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8. A panel of judges comprised of Council members and Township Staff will select one winner in each category. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, August 15. Winners will be awarded a garden sign, to help show off their success, a Miracle-Gro gift package, and a congratulatory letter.

Details are subject to change without notice. For the most up-to-date information, visit the Township’s Great Garden Challenge webpage.
