West Lincoln Launches Community Recognition Awards

For Immediate Release: June 13, 2023

The Township of West Lincoln is launching the first annual West Lincoln Community Recognition Awards, with five categories to include residents of all ages. The nomination period opens Saturday, July 1, 2023, and runs until 4 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023.

West Lincoln’s Community Recognition Awards aim to recognize residents who, through personal involvement, leadership abilities, and selfless giving of their time and talent, have positively impacted the West Lincoln community. The Township is looking for those whose contributions to West Lincoln have been a recent effort resulting in a substantial benefit to the community AND/OR those with a steady, reliable long-term history of service to West Lincoln.

Nomination forms can be downloaded or filled out and submitted online at www.westlincoln.ca/communityawards. Paper forms are also available for pick up at Township Administration, 318 Canborough Street, at the West Lincoln Community Centre, 177 West Street, and at all three West Lincoln Public Library Branches, 9549 York St., Caistorville, 177 West St., Smithville, or 5042 Canborough Rd., Wellandport.

In April of 2022, Beaver Scout Dylan Pilot presented to Council requesting support of a Citizen of the Year and Youth Citizen of the Year Program. Following Township Staff’s research and recommendations, Council approved the Recognition Program Policy and Terms of Reference at its September meeting.

The West Lincoln Community Recognition program is being organized by Mayor Cheryl Ganann, Councillor Joann Chechalk, and Councillor William Reilly with support from Township Staff. A panel of judges comprised solely of prominent community leaders (and not Council members or Staff) will be responsible for reviewing the submitted nominations and will select one winner in each of the following categories:

  • Ages 14 and under
  • Ages 21 and under
  • Ages 30 and under
  • Ages 55 and under
  • Over 55

Winners will be announced at the September Council meeting and will be celebrated with an event in October. Details are subject to change without notice. Visit the West Lincoln Community Recognition Awards webpage for the most up-to-date information.
