Two people sit on a bench painted with Pride colours

The Township of West Lincoln is proud to announce the installation of a new Pride bench located in the garden outside of the West Lincoln Community Centre, on the south side near the Smithville Branch of the West Lincoln Public Library.

The Pride bench marks the first initiative of its kind for the municipality and represents a meaningful step toward fostering inclusivity, visibility and belonging within the community.

“This Pride bench is a symbol of acceptance, kindness and community,” says Mayor Ganann. “West Lincoln is strongest when everyone feels seen, valued and welcome.”

The project was initiated by Township staff, particularly Vanessa Hoffman, Supervisor, Parks & Recreation, and supported collaboratively by Mayor Cheryl Ganann, the Township’s Chief Administrative Officer and the West Lincoln Public Library.

The bench serves as a visible reminder that everyone is welcome in West Lincoln and reflects the Township’s ongoing commitment to creating safe, respectful and inclusive public spaces for residents and visitors alike.

“The installation of the Pride bench is an important milestone for the Township,” says Cynthia Summers, Director, Community and Protective Services. “Public spaces should reflect the diversity of the people who use them and this project helps demonstrate our commitment to inclusion, representation and community connection.”

Residents are encouraged to visit the new bench and continue fostering a community where everyone feels welcome and respected.
