Township of West Lincoln Passes Animal Control By-law, Regulates Prohibited Animals

For Immediate Release: July 24, 2023

On July 17, the Township of West Lincoln passed Animal Care and Control By-law 2023-54, replacing Dog Control By-law 2011-44. Among other regulations, the new By-law regulates the keeping of several types of animals and establishes a list of animals prohibited to be kept either temporarily or permanently, with certain exemptions.

Prohibited animals listed in “Schedule B” of the new By-law that were lawfully kept within the municipal boundaries of the Township of West Lincoln prior to July 17, 2023, are grandfathered in and may therefore be kept for the duration of the animal’s life provided they register them with the Township by October 15, 2023 (90 days after the passing of the by-law). Complete the online form to register a grandfathered Prohibited animal.

The new By-law also allows Township officials to address escaping livestock and introduces some updates to kennel licensing. Visit the Township's Animal Care and Control webpage to learn more.
