West Lincoln approves new building fees, effective Jan 1

Township of West Lincoln Council approved new building permit fees at its December 15 meeting. The updated fee structure will come into effect on January 1, 2026.

The Building Code Act requires that a building fee by-law be amended publicly to charge permit fees such that the building division can operate self-sufficiently and not be a burden to the Township tax levy. Over the last few years, the cost to operate the building division have exceeded revenues generated through building permit fees, resulting in deficits.

The Township conducted a Building Permit Fees Review, which recommended new fees based on the operating costs of the building division. The new building fees are aligned with other municipalities in Niagara.
