Representatives from the Township of West Lincoln took part in the 2025 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference, held in Ottawa from August 17 to 20, where they met with members of Provincial cabinet to advocate for sustainable library funding and investments in Wellandport park and shoreline enhancements.

The AMO Conference is Ontario’s largest annual gathering of municipal leaders, providing a forum for communities to share priorities with the province and explore collaborative solutions.

West Lincoln’s delegation was led by Mayor Cheryl Ganann, Councillors Joann Chechalk, Greg Maychak, Mike Rehner, William Reilly, Regional Councillor Albert Witteveen and CAO Truper McBride.

The delegation met with the Honourable Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, to emphasize the importance of increasing the Public Library Operating Grant, which has not changed in more than 20 years, to ensure public libraries are appropriately resourced without overburdening taxpayers. The delegation also met with the Honourable Neil Lumsden, Minister of Sport, to advance discussions around support for park and shoreline improvements in Wellandport, which would benefit residents, visitors and the environment.

“Council is committed to advancing West Lincoln’s strategic priorities, and the AMO Conference gave us an important opportunity to reinforce these goals,” says Mayor Cheryl Ganann. “I would like to thank Minister Cho and Minister Lumsden for their attention and insight on these important matters. I would also like to thank MPP Oosterhoff for his support in securing these meetings. These discussions help ensure West Lincoln continues to grow as a strong and connected community.”

“The AMO Conference provides a critical platform for municipalities to engage directly with Provincial leaders on the issues that shape our future,” says CAO Truper McBride. “We will continue to advocate for resources to strengthen the quality of life and support the long-term growth and sustainability of our community.”
