West Lincoln Council adopted the Affordable Housing Community Improvement Plan at its meeting on Monday, April 27, 2026.
“This is an important step forward in making West Lincoln a more inclusive and attainable place to live,” says Mayor Cheryl Ganann. “By encouraging the development of a wider range of housing options, we’re supporting our residents today while planning responsibly for future growth. Council is committed to working with our community and development partners to ensure people of all ages and incomes can find a place to call home right here in West Lincoln.”
The Plan establishes a framework, project area and incentives for improving housing affordability and housing access within the Township. This is done in accordance with Section 28 of the Planning Act, which allows the Township to designate specific areas for improvement and provide financial incentives to landowners within that area to assist with improvement and certain types of development, redevelopment, construction or reconstruction.
“The adoption of this Plan gives us a clear framework to encourage the types of housing our community needs most,” says Gerrit Boerema, Director, Growth and Sustainability. “By aligning planning tools and incentives, we can help reduce barriers to development and support projects that deliver attainable, diverse housing options. This is a proactive step toward building a more resilient and complete community in West Lincoln.”
