The Township of West Lincoln and Niagara Region are proud to celebrate the commencement of essential watermain and sanitary sewer upgrades on Regional Road 20 and Wade Road, from South Grimsby Road 5 to the Wade Road pedestrian bridge, in Smithville.

Mayor Cheryl Ganann was joined by Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff, Councillor Joann Chechalk, Councillor Greg Maychak, Councillor William Reilly and Councillor Jason Trombetta, along with Township and Regional staff and local developers for a groundbreaking ceremony to mark this major milestone on Friday, November 7.

These critical infrastructure improvements will unlock future housing opportunities in Smithville’s growth area, ensuring the community can accommodate new homes and families while maintaining safe, reliable water and wastewater services. The project represents an important step in advancing West Lincoln’s commitment to sustainable growth.

West Lincoln was awarded $3,969,375 in Provincial funding in January of 2025 through the second intake of the Housing Enabling Water Systems Fund. This investment supports local infrastructure projects that directly enable the creation of new housing by expanding servicing capacity in high-growth communities.

The project will see the replacement and upsizing of key sections of watermain and sanitary sewer infrastructure to support both existing residents and future development needs. Construction is expected to begin the week of November 10 and continue until approximately June 2026. Efforts will be made to minimize traffic and service disruptions throughout the project area. "This provincial support through the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund for West Lincoln will help unlock the construction of hundreds of future new homes in Smithville.
