The Township of West Lincoln is proud to honour Canada’s veterans and active service members through the installation of Remembrance Day banners across the community.
Now displayed prominently along streets in Caistor Centre, Wellandport, Silverdale and Smithville, the banners feature a soldier’s silhouette over poppies with the words “Lest We Forget” and serve as a powerful reminder of the service and sacrifice of those who have defended Canada’s freedoms.
“The hanging of these banners is one small but meaningful way for us to express our gratitude and ensure that the stories of these heroes are never forgotten,” says Mayor Cheryl Ganann. “As we approach Remembrance Day, I encourage everyone to reflect and honour those who have served and those who continue to serve our country.”
"I would like to thank all the veterans who have fought in all the wars, especially those who sacrificed their lives, to give us our freedom," says Legion Branch 393 President Karen Kemp. "We truly honour them on this Remembrance Day."
Residents are encouraged to view the banners in the days leading up to Remembrance Day and to join in remembrance at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 393 ceremony and wreath laying on Tuesday, November 11, beginning at 10:45 a.m. at the Smithville Cenotaph.
