West Lincoln seeks input about hospital renaming request

For Immediate Release: April 24, 2024

The Township of West Lincoln is seeking input from the public about a request to rename the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital to West Niagara Memorial Hospital.

An online survey is now available on the Township website. Hard copies are also available at the Township Administration building, West Lincoln Community Centre and all three West Lincoln Public Library branches. The survey will be open until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10.

The Mayors of the Town of Grimsby, Town of Lincoln, Township of West Lincoln and the Chair of Niagara Region submitted a request to Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) to change the name of the new hospital to West Niagara Memorial Hospital. The proposed new name aims to accurately reflect the geography in which the hospital is located and better represent the broader communities the hospital serves.

At its April 22 meeting, Township Council voted to support the naming of the hospital based on input from the West Lincoln community collected through the survey.

Results of the Township’s survey will be shared with Hamilton Health Sciences to help inform its Board of Directors in its decision about this request. Personal information collected in the survey to ensure data integrity will not be shared or made public.
