About Earth Day

Earth Day is a movement marked by a wide range of events, coordinated globally, that honour the achievements of the environmental movement and raise awareness of the need to protect Earth's natural resources for future generations.

Every year on April 22, individuals and groups take action to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Since the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970, Earth Day has grown to engage billions of people across the globe.

The official Earth Day theme for 2024 is Planet vs. Plastics, uniting students, parents, businesses, governments, churches, unions, individuals, and NGOs in an unwavering commitment to call for the end of plastics for the sake of human and planetary health, demanding a 60% reduction in the production of plastics by 2040 and an ultimate goal of building a plastic-free future for generations to come.

Host a Community Clean Up!

Community Clean Up

To celebrate Earth Day, the Township of West Lincoln is once again inviting the public to host and participate in Community Clean Ups.

The Township's Green Team supports Community Clean Ups by facilitating clean up locations, providing garbage bags, gloves and safety tips, and picking up collected garbage after the clean up is completed.

*For safety reasons, the Township does not facilitate road-side cleanup; however, options for parks and Township properties for cleanup activities can be provided.

Email staff to register your Community Clean Up and receive your kit.
